Dental Veneers

Woman smiling with perfect teethSimply put, a veneer is a thin layer of composite that is on the front of the teeth. Besides composite, porcelain may also be implemented. As a veneer is applied, they are able to stick to the tooth to provide an appearance that is healthy and classic in nature.

If a veneer is used, they will be determined by the amount you would benefit from it and if your teeth truly need them. Having the thin layer will help your teeth appear straighter and whiter as you enjoy your smile more. Veneers made of porcelain will be custom made for your teeth.

Your porcelain veneers will enable you to enjoy a strong set of teeth that will remain durable for many years. Having composite veneers will involve a material that will be the same color that gets filled and bonded onto your teeth. This bonding is what makes your teeth extra strong with the addition of the veneers.

Porcelain and resin veneers are both great choices. Although a resin veneer may not have the same amount of durability as opposed to porcelain, their reparability is much greater. They will also need less amount of enamel removal.

When Do You Need Veneers?

Although veneers are considered cosmetic in nature, a dentist will still need to prescribe their use. For example, a chipped tooth, size difference, misalignment, or staining may warrant a dentist to prescribe veneers.

What Do Veneers Feel Like?

Having a dental procedure done such as a veneer, is not as complicated as it may sound. In order for a porcelain veneer to be attached, some enamel will be eliminated for the placement. An impression will then be made of your teeth. After the impression and color has been determined, a mold will then be created at a dental lab.

When the dentist receives the veneers, their precision and positioning will be examined. The veneer will then be cleaned and bonded over your teeth. A composite veneer is an even less complex procedure.

Some enamel may or may not be removed in order for shaping of the teeth to take place. The dentist will then sculpt your teeth and contour the material of the veneer. The composite will then be hardened with a light during the bonding process to add extra strength.
